Ice Safety Training

Enjoy the photo album below.

Year 9 students practiced ice safety last Friday as part of their physical education. They had the opportunity to learn about how to tell when ice is safe to walk on and what safety equipment is necessary to bring with you when you go out on the ice. Finally they were given the opportunity to practice getting out of a hole in the ice using their safety equipment.

The blocks of ice they extracted from lake Mälaren to make the hole were used to make ice sculptures.
The students ate hot-dogs and warmed up in a traditional sauna after swimming in the icy water.

The basics of ice safety are important to understand when living in Sweden, especially if you live as close to a body of water as many of the students at SSHL do.
